Born in Los Angeles and raised in a mixed Latino and Native American family, Erika grew up taking part in choir, theatre and dance. Her first belly dance class was one she attended with her mother.
At the University of California, San Diego, she studied anthropology and joined the competitive ballroom dance team. She graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology in 2008.
After returning to Los Angeles, she rediscovered belly dance through a live concert project in 2010 and later performed with dance companies while working in historic preservation.
In 2014, Erika chose to pursue her career as a solo professional belly dance artist. Dance and travel have shaped her story ever since.
